Alas Mike they seem to work very slow at Canon. Constant problem. For my Epson drivers were released the same day as Sierra, not that it mattered everything worked via wifi in the Beta Testing version.

I just contacted Canon and was told they are not going to create drivers for the Pro 9000 as it was released in 2006. I explained that this was not an inexpensive printer and works just fine so they expect us to throw away a good printer every time they refuse to make drivers. Spread this around I want to make their lives miserable. Please call them and voice your anger, let them know that you are going to go to another brand. This type of garbage is why I hate major corporations. They hold us hostage. If this was a cheap piece of junk I could understand but this is a professional printer.

I'm not a big fan of Canon and have expressed my opinion about them on several occasions in our forums, however, your printer is from 2006, Pro version or not. That's a 10 year old printer and in computer technology years, it's very old. Perhaps you can find a third party driver somewhere if you search but don't expect Canon or any other printer manufacturer to provide support for 10 years. ;D

If you want to keep using the printer, your options are; do not upgrade the OS, or, do not use the printer. It is your choice on money spent.

Thanks Patrick but the listed driver is the one that I am using.
I moved to Canon recently having had disgusting treatment from Epson over my P600. They took 6 months to give up but still denied that there was a problem. Unless anyone can tell me otherwise, the P600 will not print a banner/panorama on roll paper, suspect that the driver is a kludge as the blurb claims up to 1.1 metres for Mac and 3 metres for Windows.

Hi
Issue not fixed as reported but not a Canon problem I think.
I have been struggling with this issue for some time. At first I blamed Canon as I had just bought a Pro 10s. At the same time I upgraded to Sierra - big mistake. The issue is down to Apple, on printing it crashes my PS CS4 and Adobe PDF. This happens with my Epson printers also. Unfortunately it is intermittent so difficult to pin down. I have reset the printer prefs, swapped USB ports and drunk a lot of whisky, only the latter helps. I can print with no problems from Word etc.

Any posters with printer problems here tried installing the Gutenprint, was formerly called Gimp-Print, and their driver software???

Most of the printers mentioned here are listed in their supported list.

Gutenprint was formerly called Gimp-Print.
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/index.php
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php

Gutenprint 5.2.12-pre4 is available!

New as of November 1, 2016!The Gutenprint project is pleased to announce Gutenprint 5.2.12-pre4. This pre-release adds support for many new printers and other improvements over 5.2.10. Note that the Foomatic data generator and the Ghostscript IJS driver have been removed as CUPS support is ubiquitous and Foomatic is not needed with CUPS. This package is available in source form, and also in binary installer form for Macintosh OS X (10.6 and above; 10.5 and below are no longer supported). You can read the release notes and download it here.

I waited to install Sierra until Canon showed my printer compatible with Sierra. Guess it's been a month or so, don't remember, but I've had zero problems with my Canon MG5520 with Sierra.

does anyone know if this is vaiid? http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0100176902.html
Found this for Asia, and wondered if it made a difference using it in the US... I would like to use the PIXMA printer with the Sierra OS.... seems silly that you can't when it's still a fully functional printer!
Thanks much!
D

Hi

If you are running a Canon Pixma pro printer the driver does not work with Siera. Canon are aware and "working on it".
There is a work-around here.

Welcome to our forums.

I would go ahead and give it a try. Looks like a legitmate driver for the Canon series printers. The only question I would have is if it gives all the options that you need. Certainly worth looking into and giving it a go. Make sure you backup first before installing it. Let us know if it works for you.

My Canon Pixma 990 was working under Sierra. The driver was fine though i mat have been using the driver from an earlier OS. I ditched the printer because it was starting to consistently not print at all or print everytything in yellow.

I can't see why it wouldn't but why bother when the same version is available from both the U.S. AND Canada support sites for the Pro9000 Mark II with Sierra:
https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/...ssional-inkjet-printers/pixma-pro9000-mark-ii
http://www.canon.ca/inetCA/en/serviceDetail?m=load&directLink=Y&mid=3295B003&type=D&opt=1

And it seems the release dates was some time ago.

My bad... It's not the Mark II, it's just the Pro9000 driver I'm looking for, so the one from Asia won't work anyway... I didn't realize there were 2 different printers. Grrr... Is it hopeless with Sierra? Thanks everyone for their speedy replies!

It looks like you'll have to go back to a previous compatible OS or get a new printer. And please don't ask me why and how changing a Mac OS X version can goof up so many printers from working so often, after all the whole software thing still works about the same and is just sending some print instructions.

Anyway, according to Appl'e's support page, that Canon Pro9000 is kaput for use with Sierra etc:
Printer and scanner software for macOS Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, and Mavericks

Listed under:
No longer available as software updates
https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201465

Bummer… I guess.

Bummer, indeed. Seems ridiculous! Anyway, thanks for your help. Saw that myself, but wanted verification... appreciate it!
