Hi guys

I just got my new sims 3 disc and tried to install it but it interrupted accidentally causing me to force quit the application. After this I saw that my hard disk space went down by 3 GB! I searched my mac for any traces of newly installed sims 3 software but nothing seems to be showing up. Is there anyway I can fully deleted what I've previously installed? I only have 60gb of space so I really want to make sure I have nothing useless on my hard drive before I reinstall 6 GB of the sims 3.

Thanks!

Just run the installer again, it should just over-write the previously installed files.

Not truw because when I reinstalled it my original space (37 GB) which went down to 34 GB ia now 28GB. Meaning there is 4 extra gig being used up. How do I fix this problem?

From what has been written so far...this is how I understand the situation:

- the amount of free space on the hard drive BEFORE doing any Sims 3 install was 37gig.
- after the first install attempt (which was interrupted accidentally)...the hard drives free space went from 37 gig to 34gig.
- after the 2nd Sims 3 install (I'm assuming a successful install)...the hard drives free space went from 34gig to 28gig.

If this is correct...here's what sounds like happened:

- During the 1st Sims 3 install...Sims 3 was only partially installed (HD free space went from 37-34gig).
- During the 2nd Sims 3 install...the Sims 3 installer program basically continued where it ended the first time around and continued the install...leaving you with a final amount of free space on your hard drive of 28gig.

HTH,

- Nick

Doesn't sound right. Is the new Sims 3 game that large? According to what the OP reported, his available space went down by 9 GB. I've seen large space hog games - (MS Flight Simulator for one) but 9 GB seems a bit excessive for Sims 3. I'm not a gamer, so just wondering?

I searched before posting:

The Sims 3 Released for Mac OS X - Softpedia

...and found that the system requirements stated "At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space, with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games". So that would seem to add up to 7+ gig HD space needed.

I'm not exactly sure what is meant by "at least 6.1 GB of hard drive space, with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games"...unless there's a couple/few install choices...such as a min. install, intermediate install, and a full install...or something like that.

There's two "at least" statements there...making things a bit unclear.

I agree...if the OP is seeing 9 gig of HD space used...and if only 7 gig total is required...something doesn't add up...unless there are different (more space requiring) installs possible.

I just googled "Sims 3 takes 9GB?", and a fair few filesharing and torrent sites came up, most of them are the "Full" install all averaging just over 9GB, so seems like the "Full Install" could be correct.

(I don't condone the download of these files though, before anyone says something ;) )

Re: nick

yes, my previous hard disk space was 37 gb.
it went down to 34 after the first interrupted install,
then 28 for the 2nd successful install.
That makes it take up computer disk space of more than 6.1 gb so it definitely doesn't add up.

Is there anyway I can fully delete everything I've installed in my computer sims3-wise and reinstall all of this again so I can maximize my space?

If there is an uninstaller that comes on the disk or has also been installed then use that, if not then you could use something like AppZapper.

I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion. If you see the link I posted above...Sims 3 is supposed to require at least 6.1 gig of hard drive space. If you've calculated that the install took a total of around 6.1gig...then that sounds just about right to me.

With nothing else to be concerned about...other than having fun with Sims 3!:)

Yes, I know that this took 6.1 GB of hard disk space but my ORIGINAL space left was 37. In an ideal world the sims would only reduce my space to 31 GB. However, after the 1st unsuccessful install my disk space was reduced to 34. With the next successful install, the sims further reduced it to 28 GB. So if you look at it, yes it did take up 6.1 GB but overall (including the 1st unsuccessful install), it took up 9 GB of space.

Appzapper will probably work in removing my sims 3 currently installed now. But I want to know how to fully remove all 9gb of sims supposedly installed into my computer so I can restore it to it's former memory of 37 GB.

To be honest...this mysterious 3-4 gig you seem to be missing is probably due to something else than all this Sims 3 installation stuff.

For example...have you emptied your trash lately (maybe a bunch of stuff is in there). Or it's very likely something else was installed or downloaded around the same time you tried to install Sims 3...and maybe you forgot about it.

I know that you're probably going to say I'm crazy ;)...and nothing like that ever happened...but stranger things have ocurred!:)
