What exact computer model are we talking about? In case it's important...according the the SMC Fan Control website...with version 2.5 compatibility with 32 bit only computers has been discontinued.

Thanks Nick!

Mac OS X 10.6.8
2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
SMC Version (system): 1.12f5

Is that a help?

Yes...that helps. Your MacBook is 64-bit. So no problem there.:)

Only thing I can think of is...if you go to SMC Fan Control preference settings...maybe there's a setting to show it in the top of the window.

Whilst not a fan of SMCFanControl, why are you changing the settings? Your MacBook will do that on its own. What temperatures are being recorded to warrant changing fan speeds? Are you using iStatPro or anything to monitor temperatures?

I'm with HarryB on this topic. SMCFanControl is, at the very best, a band-aid covering a genuine issue. I do not recommend its use, particularly if the machine isn't shutting down without it.
