I try to install then it says "This volume does not meet the requirements". I did a little research and it's because my mac was bundled with the latest software or something around those lines. It is an Intel 2 Core Duo.

I tried doing the automatic software update, and it downloads the combo, then when it installs it freezes at like 15% and never moves. I left it turned on for a day. Same thing.

I downloaded the standalone combo update and still have it. Now it won't install on my HardDrive because of the volume issue.

What should I do? I really need this update as it is interfering with a lot of things.

And this is my first post, I'm new here so I'd like to greet everyone else a friendly Hello. I will be sticking around for a LONG time as I own everything apple. Okay, not really but I do have an apple iPhone, iPod, and MacBook that I can't live without.

Thanks for the help in advance!

How much free space have you got on that mac's hard drive?

What is the current version of OS X and what are you trying to download and install?

Current version is 10.5.5. and I'm trying to update it with the 10.5.8. combo which is recommended on my automatic software update, but as mentioned above, I've tried to install it three times but get the "stuck at 15% for the whole day" screen all the time so I'd have to reboot it and disrupt installation.

The standalone installer is working, I've downloaded, but I can't get past the third step because it says my volume does not meet the requirements. It has 180gb space, so that shouldn't be an issue. I bought my macbook 13" aluminum this year, and sources say that the problem could be the bundled software which has "later" versions installed, which is why it says the volume does not meet reqs.

I'm trying to figure out a way to combat this and actually get the software installed. I moved abroad, and there is no apple store next to me so I can't give them a visit.

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
Just a shot in the dark, but if you try to update 10.5.5 again.... does it work?
If it works, hopefully it resolves the issue, and allows you to proceed with installing the following updates!

"sources" ?

What bundled software - you mean the original Leopard installation? -preposterous.

Two things I'd try to start.

Re-download the 10.5.8 combo update - make sure it's not a bad download.

Repair Permissions

As a suggestion, have you tried downloading the combo updater driect from the Apple web site and leave SU alone? Click on the link and download only. Run Repair Permissions, disconnect peripherals other than keyboard and mouse, de-activate AV, if loaded, drag the updaqte from the Downloads folder to the desk top and double click.

When finished run Repair Permissions a second time, and connect everything back up. Here is the link and as it is 759MB trust you have a fast broadband/cable connection :-

Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update

As harry has suggested go directly to the Apple site for the download. I had similar issues way back when i tried the update from the software update. Mine got to 95% and stayed that way forever " TWICE ".

I then did a Repair Permission and downloaded the combo from Apple and VIOLA worked with out a hitch ...

Good luck

Cheers

How do I repair permissions? And I did download it directly from the apple site and it downloaded perfectly. I tried using the software update about four times now before, and still get stuck at 15% even by leaving my macbook turned on for a day.

What about partitioning? Again, I read it somewhere but didn't save the link it had to do with something about ATA or GUI or something. I know, that's not much of help but when you're in college with so little time (doing an essay right now) little things like this stress you out:[ but thanks all for helping!

Nice work on the update ....

Repair permission HD>applications>utilities>disk utilities and once your there in the left click the drive you want to repair and then click repair disk permissions ...

And the same for partitioning hard drive HD>applications>utilities>disk utilities Pick the drive you want to partition, click the partition tab at the top then click and drag in the partition window to the size you want. Click apply.

You can have a look at
Mac tip and tricks for a more intuitive approach to it .....

cheers
