Since the latest OS update to Sonoma 14.7.3, some odd OS behaviours have emerged. I'm speculating as to cause, but it's the only change that's been made very recently.
1. The 'jump to end of document' of Cmd↓ in TextEdit has gone. I restored it with SysSetting>Keyboard>Shortcuts as advised on a previous occasion, but it too has since gone. A Mac Mini restart does not cure the issue.
2. Messages (the green bubble thingie) used to sync with my iPhone7. Not any more.

I've yet to let OnyX loose on the Mini, but here it is for comment, and perhaps solution(s) meantime. TIA.

Update
I knew it, Murfee's Lore has struck, and OnyX has fixed the TextEdit issue, but not the Messages. In 6/6 hindsight that could be to do with the different OS platform being used by a sender, but messages from that person have previously synced to both Mini and iPhone.

I noticed an issue recently where I had a similar issue syncing Messages across devices. I have an iPhone, iPad and Mac all logged into the same account but I noticed that messages were not syncing on the Mac.

Check each device and make sure that each of them are logged into the same account (Apple ID). While you are there check the settings for Messages on each device to make sure that synching has not been turned off somehow.

In on your iPhone 7 Settings > Apps > Messages check that Text Message Forwarding includes your *Computer. Mine shows my MBP and my iPad.

*It is possible that your iPhone 7 may not be running a recent enough iOS to be compatible with macOS Sonoma.

Thank you both, but straight away I hit a snag. Mine is an iPhone 7, thus old, and I have no interest in upgrading. I cannot locate a Setting>Apps, it just isn't there.

The iPhone is using iOS 15.8.3, and as Rod suggests, it may be out-of-date for syncing, but it used to work splendidly. It does list two addresses for Send & Receive: 1) the iPhone and 2) my email address.

It never fails to bug me that something used to work but no longer does because of something beyond my ken. I'll just have to manage without syncing, it's not essential to my survival 😜.

I think you are to be congratulated on maintaining an iPhone in working condition so long but as we are now up to iPhone 16 we can say your iPhone is now 9 years or at least 9 models old. Given the average life span of an iPhone is only about 5 years, I think you're doing pretty well.

Computer technology is probably the fastest developing area of science so it's no surprise that a 9 year old device lacks some compatability with 2023 software. Indeed macOS Somoma itself has been superceeded by macOS Sequoia.

Having said all that though it's still possible that you can add your computer to the list of personal contact devices on your iPhone and that would be in System Preferences somewhere but I'm not sure where. iOS 15.8.3 was before Preferences changed to Settings and the menu has changed somewhat even compared to my oldest device, an iPad running iPad OS 17.7.4. the current iOS being 18.3 now.
I'll do a bit more searching tomorrow an let you know what if anything I can find.

Everything advised (above) is done. To all intents & purposes - other than them working of course - is kosher. The only unknown is the sender's settings on a different platform, and there's nothing I can do about that. I shall do some pestering of my Mac mate to send me irrelevant twaddle to see if it shows up on both devices synchronously.

A singular thank you to Rod who acknowledges that - in my words - the latest ain't the greatest, at least for this user. My iPhone 7 is used for essential communication and convenience photography only. It's due for battery replacement, or so I'm informed, but it works whenever I need it; otherwise it remains plugged into a charger whenever it's not being used.

In considering Sequoia for my Mac Mini (2023) and my choice of limitation to Sonoma, I noted what Apple itself was promoting, summed up with ... "more productive and creative". In my case - of what? I see btw that OS 14.7.4 Sonoma is now available.

Cheers ... Hugh
