I use Mac Mail app for my gmail account. I have been receiving spam email with the same "username" and constantly changing "domain names". So when I block the email, it just shows up again with a different domain name. Is there a way to block the "username" in gmail? Thank you in advance.

Are you looking at the "name" shown in the from field on the Apple Mail pane or at the actual email address the email was sent from?
If your email address is, say [email protected], I don't see how an email with the same user name but different domain, eg [email protected] can end up in your inbox.

If nothing else, just make a new Rule that includes the sender's "username", and have it sent to the Trash or just delete it if possible. Ie: use just whatever email details stay consistent when creating a rule.

I find that this has been happening for years, both here on my Mac, and when I used Outlook and windows, its how the spammers work.

Yep, It is just one of the many cat-and-mouse-type methods played out between the spammers and program developers and the poor user is stuck in the middle while the battle rages on around them, but usually one can manage some way to bypass or make the spammers process less painful or less annoying.

I think one could call it an endless war or battle that will no doubt carry on for many more years, unfortunately.

And yes, always the same "username" but different domain name. I went back into Goggle/Mail and updated the rules. I only had Jane Doe (example) listed. I then added JaneDoe and janedoe to the list for any part of the email address. Will see if that works.

I use SpamSieve on Apple Mail and have for some time but it doesn't change the reality that one your email is "out there" you will continue to get spam from sender's you haven't yet blocked. Aliases, filters and Hide my Email (a recent macOS addition) all help but nothing will stop a new sender from contacting you once. There are bots sending millions of these fake emails every hour.

I use SpamSieve on Apple Mail...

I second the recommendation for SpamSieve. It's the best $30 I ever spent. It is the first thing that I install on any new Mac.

SpamSieve ($30)
http://c-command.com/spamsieve/

SpamSieve does an almost magical job of detecting and sorting spam into its own folder to be looked at and erased at your leisure. It isn't fooled by spoofed senders, or by changes of sender name, or subject. There is no risk of missing an important e-mail due to a false positive.

Right now I'm averaging 16 spam messages a day, and SpamSieve is detecting them at 99.6% accuracy (according to the statistics that it automatically keeps.) It's my favorite app.

As I mentioned when receiving spam email from "Jane Doe"@...., with the domain name ever changing, I added a rule to Google Mail to reject any mail with the username of Jane Doe, JaneDoe, or janedoe. Now received an email from Jane Doe (email title), but now the email from address username is alpha numeric and the domain name still random change. You just can win I guess. Is there a way to flag/create rule for the "Name of the Email"? Gmail title is "Jane Doe" with now random username and domain name.

I rather think SpamSieve could handle this, as mentioned by Randy.

The spammers can keep adapting to whatever rules you create forever. The thing is, SpamSieve can't be adapted against. Just install it, train it, and from then on laugh at how you have outwitted the spammers. Really, it will be the best $30 you ever spend...
