This command should work in Terminal. I can not get it to work in Terminal Mac El Capitan. Keeps returning command not found.

No that command shouldn't work, that's a Linux command. As far as I can tell there isn't an equivalent on Mac.

Try this
Code:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resources/airport -s
This will give you some of the same information.

@rim45:

Several things:

Some of the newer routers will have that information available by running a utility from the router firmware menu. Check your router to see if that info is available.

Also, most routers when set on automatic and using the 2.4GHz frequency will default to channel 10.

But if you're in a busy area like an apartment complex, it's best to switch to the 5GHz band where you have a vast selection of channels to use.

I was messing around with wireless specs via internet connections for mac and other platforms. Not getting what Apple specs say I should get with my equipment.

Used the Apple Network tool and it told me that channels 1 or 2 were best for 2.4GHz. I question that. Anyway my internet connection for my equipment Mac and Windows is 300 Mbps downloads, only getting approximately 200 Mbps on the Mac sitting next to the Linksys EA6500 router for the 5.0GHz network. With an Ethernet cable Mac is close to the 300 Mbps speeds.

Just trying to figure out what was going on. My equipment is capable spec wise of the 300 Mbps.

Thanks
