Hello,

I recently upgraded my 2011 MacBookPro 8,1 (Intel Core i7, 2,7 GHz) to El Capitan (OS X 10.11.2 (15C50), kernel: Darwin 15.2.0).

When browsing the web with Safari, the mouse gesture to swipe between pages (1 finger left-right) is not working anymore, although /Preferences/Mouse is specified correctly.

Any idea to solve the problem?

Regards,
Lluis

One finger was never the default for this. I would imagine that the upgrade to El Capitan reset your alteration to the swipe gestures. The default, which works fine here, is two fingers.

Perhaps try setting it back to the default, check that that works, then re-customizing it.

chas_m, I don't remember changing it and one-finger swipes to previous screen and back in Safari for me. Frankly, it's a little overly sensitive for my taste, but it's still a one-finger gesture. Maybe you changed the default sometime?

FOR THE OP: Try setting the gesture off, then leave Preferences, then go back and set it on again. That may trigger it.

I'm going by what the video seen in the trackpad system preference for Macs says it is (two-finger).

Interesting. In the pictures in System Preferences, under mouse gestures it's one finger.

Mouse chas! Do I need to send my cat over to your house to show you what a mouse looks like? ;P One finger swipe for me too.

Yeppers, one finger wouldn't work on the trackpad as we're using that just to move the cursor around.

For the op, test after each one - try:
1) Restarting your computer.
2) In Preferences - change it to something else. Close the preferences, re-open preferences and change it back
3) SMC reset - google it
