Syncing my.yahoo emails under Safari with Chrome

My wife's uses Chrome as her OS on her old PC laptop. My iMac uses Safari. But both computers bring up the exact emails under my.yahoo. Not sure how I did that a long time ago. My iMac, using Chrome, is not synced with Safari, so no emails. If i can sync the two operating systems on my Mac, to get the same emails, that should solve my next problem also.
I bought my wife a new Win laptop. Not sure how to sync there old win 7 laptop with her new Win 10 laptop to get the emails on the new laptop. If I can get Chrome on my Mac to sync, it should take care of that problem. I think. Why I got her a Win instead of a Mac? She is somewhat familiar with windows (I greatly exaggerate here), and uses it mainly to check emails for sales and spend money profusely at various online stores. Anything technical, including can and wine openers, presents it's own challenges. I am frequently tasked with finding why a credit card or PayPal purchase failed to complete, so to her I am a computer Genius. In the land of the blind.. Yet I bow down to the real geniuses out there to fix this simple problem so my wife will continue to worship my infallible intellect. If only.

Pete, there are a lot of terms you have used somewhat inexpertly. Chrome is not an OS, nor is Safari. They are both browsers, used to browse the Internet. Yahoo is a site in the internet that offers what is called webmail, that is, email you can see and send with just a browser. Browsers don't sync, they just browse. You cannot have two operating systems on the iMac, just one, which you can see if you click on the , then About This Mac. The resulting window will tell you which Mac and what operating system you have. It would be handy for us to know what that is, by the way.

OK, with that bit of background, I don't know what you mean by "synced" in your post. When anybody opens the yahoo mail at yahoo.com and reads the mail, it gets marked as read. Anybody with any other browser will now see that email as having be read already. Is that what you mean by "synced?" If so, then when her browser on Win 10, known as "Edge" goes to yahoo and looks at the mail, if you have already read it on your iMac, it will be shown as read. If you have not read it, it will show as not read. If she reads it, it flips to read for all browsers.

If I misunderstood your post, my apologies, and can you restate it in a way to help me understand what it is you are trying to accomplish?

I tend to mix up one thing for another, just ask my wife. Browsers it is. When I talk about accessing my emails, I mean accessing my emails on the My.Yahoo website.
I have always used Safari as my browser, but would also like to use Chrome, and maybe switch to it. When I have used Chrome, my emails are not there. It's something I never really paid much attention too until now. I cannot access my emails using Chrome. I can using Safari.
So basically, Under Safari I can access all my Yahoo emails on My.Yahoo.com. But when I change browsers to Chrome, all my emails are not shown. I want to set it up (sync?) so what I see in my Yahoo emails under Safari is what I also see under Chrome.
Not to confuse the matter, but my wife's Win7 laptop, using the Chrome browser, can access all the same emails as I do on my Mac under Safari (We use the same email address). I don't know how to have her new Win 10 laptop, using the Chrome browser, do the same thing. But, I figure if I can get my mac Chrome browser to see the same as my Mac's Safari browser, maybe I will solve the Win 10 laptop problem at the same time.

When you open Chrome, do you enter the My.Yahoo site address into the address bar? You need to go to yahoo, and login to your account in order to have access to your mail on a different browser, and you may be required to "authorize" Chrome, if you have some type of security on your email account. I know I do with gmail, iCloud and Hotmail.

Following on from Jake's excellent post - when you use Safari, you are presumably either clicking on a link/bookmark to Yahoo, or going into Google and entering the Yahoo website address.

Either way, the end point is that you are logging into a internet-based website called Yahoo.... or MyYahoo, whatever.

You can do that from any computer (in a library for example), using any browser you care - provided you use that browser to get to the Yahoo site and then into MyYahoo and login.

So, on your iMac, use Chrome or any other browser, to find the Yahoo address/MyYahoo account and log in. Once logged in, you can bookmark the log in page so that you can quickly access it in the future.

Like Jake, I don't see the problem clearly, but guess from your latest post that Safari has some kind of shortcut to your Yahoo mail, whereas a new browser has to be guided there?

As Jake stated Ian stated, you and your better half use browsers to access Yahoo emails. My guess is that initially both you and your wife saved the user ID and password in the browser, Safari and Chrome respectively. As such, the browsers authenticate your account in the background and your emails are "just there", but not in other browsers.

If you remember your user ID and password, go to this link with the Chrome browser on your Mac:

Enter your user ID and password to login, Chrome should offer to save both to log you in next time in the background. You can do the same on your wife's new W10 laptop as well. This will work in any browsers, Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Safari, etc.

If you don't know your password reset it with Yahoo...

Pete, Bob, Ian and Cr00zng have all given you excellent suggestions. I think what you need to do is to log into your yahoo account on the browsers that you want to use for your email access and if Yahoo requires it, authenticate them as legitimate. If Yahoo doesn't really care about the browser, as long as the browser remembers your login information and provides it automatically, you should be ready to go. If, however, the new browsers don't automatically log you in (some are now invoking increased security and no longer offering that so that YOU have to log in to prove you are you) you will have to enter your account login and password each time. If that is the case and is making life difficult, you may want to look into a password storage system like 1Password, or similar, that will store your passwords securely and can automatically populate the account information if you want it to. Safari, as a browser, stores passwords and will automatically log you in, if you stick with Safari. I don't know what happens on Windows with Edge, I don't use it.

Sue, I have never understood the reluctance to use a proper email application. Even Mail, as it is, is better than using webmail. I occasionally have to revert to webmail if I am away from any of my devices, but that's happening less and less as the devices get more ubiquitous. I am seldom away from my iPhone, so I am seldom away from Mail on there.

But I guess there are folks who prefer webmail. *shrug*

I think it was initially antipathy to the domination of google, hotmail etc then subsequently laziness; I like to tap on my email and have the contents straight away rather than winding up a browser. gmx syncs beautifully with my iphone and ipad, better than the one I used for the previous 20 years, and they are quick to respond if you have any queries.

Chrome opens to Google as my opening page. I have added some favorites including my.yahoo. When i click my.yahoo, I get my my.yahoo homepage, but it is covered light green instead of Blue and the mail is blank as are my stock info. I would prefer Chrome open to my my.yahoo homage. When I open Safari it goes to my my.yahoo homepage where I can access my mail and my stocks in my portfolio. My wife uses Chrome and it opens to the same homepage as when I use Safari.
I'll try some of the things suggested and get back with my failures. I am an optimist, but am aware of my software intelligence quotient.

I don't use Chrome, but somewhere in the Chrome preferences you can set the homepage. I think the best way is to first get to where you want it to open then enter Preferences and most browsers will then let you use the "current" page as the homepage. Another way might be to get to where you want as homepage in Safari, then select everything in the URL Address bar and copy it, then paste it into the Chrome Preferences homepage option. I don't know what green vs blue means. Nor what is meant by "stock info." When you get to my.yahoo, is there a login process that you need to use to change color?

I'm stabbing in the dark because I don't use either Chrome or Yahoo. Maybe someone who uses both will come along. Good luck with it, Pete.

Jake - When i have had problems getting my complete home page in Yahoo, I have a light green background. Normally it would be blue. I then log on to Yahoo and get my good homepage. This happens rarely, usually after I clear all my cookies. Normally I go straight to my blue homepage.
Bob - When I hit the Safari browser, I go straight to my.yahoo and i can view, delete, reply, etc. all my emails without having to log in. Likewise my wife on her PC, she hits her Chrome browser and goes straight to my.yahoo. No need to sign in.
Let me add that neither one of our computers are password protected. They are used only at home.

Been pretty busy so will try the suggested fixes within the next few days. Thanks all.

Pete, that's because you have previously logged in to your email account and Safari has saved the log in details (username + PW) and ditto for your wife using Chrome.

Log in details using Safari are stored in Keychain. As your wife gets the same result using Chrome, there will be a way of saving the same log in details there as well.

I don't use Chrome very often, but just did a test just now and was able to log in manually to Amazon and then save the details. So that seems to work. That's what you need to do.

Now I got to figure out the new Win 10 laptop...not a Mac topic. The new PC wants me to log in on Outlook, which I learned is an MS email program. So I need to open an Outlook email account in order to log into the new computer and I guess activate Win 10. I'll try it on this Mac and if that doesn't work use the old PC...which takes 3 minutes minimum... before it is online; hence the new laptop. Someone mentioned Edge which is some new(?) MS OS or browser or shaving cream. I'll look it up.

No, Outlook, is only a mail reader app, which they (M$) want you to sign up for their email service. You can add email accounts (Yahoo, iCloud, gMail) to the Outlook app. It works, just like Apples macOS Mail app.

I gather you have Windows 10 Home Edition version on the new laptop...

In which case, you need to create an outlook.com account to log on to your new windows laptop, unless you don't want to.

If you disconnect wired/wireless connections from the new laptop, it'll throw an error and will allow you to create a local account. Here's a link for details:

The new W10 laptop probably has an OEM image, that also fallows the same installation steps.

This is one of the many reasons why I'd never use Home Edition. The Windows 10 Professional gives you much more option, like create local account only at the time of installing the OS...
