This may/may not belong in this section but I need some help.

I have a late 2011 MacBook pro that has bit the dust. I wanted to pull the data through target disk mode?

I think that is correct I have done it once before.

If this will work I need to find a way connect this 2011 macbook to a brand new one.

I was looking for a thunderbolt to USB-C cable but only find Thunderbolt 3 to USB-c.

I assume this will not work well with the OG thunderbolt which is what I assume the 2011 macbook has.

I also saw where you might need an adapter from thunderbolt 3 to 1 to use it properly?

Thanks in advance for taking time to respond and help me out.

Please indicate what the new Mac is and what version of macOS was running on the 2011 MBP. Target Disk mode works with varying versions of OS with different cables.

The new Mac is:
MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021)
macOS Monterey Version 12.2.1

The OG MacBook:

MacBook Pro (15-inch, late 2011)
High Sierra

Does the old Macbook turn on? If not, then you can't do the target disk mode and if it was the gen of Macbooks with spinning media, you'd had to take it out and use an adapter to get the data out.

It will turn on. It gets stuck in a cycle of booting halfway then restarting.

OK, before trying to connect another Mac, power down this Mac. While holding down the T key, power it on to get it into target disk mode, if it stays booted up with some sort of indication on the screen. If then, then can try connect it to the other Mac and if things go well the disk from the target machine should appear on the desktop of the other machine for you to grab data from.

I've done this before and had success... but I need to find the correct connector.

I am trying to find USB-C to Original Thunderbolt 1 or if a more modern thunderbolt would work before i buy one.

Gotcha, OK I can't help with the cable specifics, you might have to purchase a few different kinds with returns and see what works for you.
