Yes to both questions. I have a Time Capsule attached to my primary router and use the drive as network storage. My backups are completed by wire but I could do them wirelessly.

There are a few things I would suggest to you first:

1. Does your current router already support wireless connections. If so, can you attach a USB hard drive to that router? If the answer to both questions is yes you could get Time Capsule functionality for less money by simply attaching a hard drive to the router.

2. Although the Time Capsule hardware allows you to backup wirelessly, if you will be using Time Machine you might ant to complete the first backup by wire. It is usually much faster than wireless for the first backup.

Tc

Already using a hard drive removed from a G5 where the power supply died. Backups are done USB to that HD and are current. So if I get the TC and use that will I have wireless wifi for my iphone and if I get the iPad? And will the TC backup wirelessly? I want that capability. I also want my Imac wired to the router and my xbox wired to it.

Way... way too many specs to list.
Yes it's a wifi access point, yes that means you'll have wifi available for any A/B/G/N device. Yes, TC will backup wirelessly. Oh and it should have 4 gigE ethernet connections as well.

You're good to go as Dys said. I have my backups stored on an external drive attached to the TC and it works fine. I don't have other devices attached to my TC by wire but that is because they are attached to my primary router.

There is one caveat I will mention just in case it is an issue for you. If you already have a router that is providing wireless signals. You can use the TC to extend your existing network wirelessly but if you do so you loose the use of the wired ethernet ports. This is not an issue if the TC is your primary router or if you are using it to extend the network by wire.

That's right. It's pretty easy to set up, You do have to make sure that only one of the devices is handing out IP numbers. If you get stuck I'm sure our network gurus can walk you through everything.
