I recently succumbed to a free trial of Total AV. Since it “expired” I have been pestered with the pop-up window below, apparently asking me to sign up for a fee. I click on “ignore” and the window disappears, but it keeps coming back. How do I stop this happening?

I have an iMac 10.13.6

Unfortunately, TotalAV doesn't offer a stand-alone uninstaller program or detailed instructions on how to manually totally uninstall the program. Several sites on the Web indicate that TotalAV is itself malware! So you are left with two choices.

First, you can download the free demo of TotalAV and re-install it, and then use the built-in uninstall features in the program to totally uninstall it:

The other choice is to download this free search program that very comprehensively looks for things on your Mac, even files hidden deep within your system. Once you find them, you can delete them right from within the program:

EasyFind (free)

Set EasyFind to look for all instances of "TotalAV'
Set it to look for both files and folders
Set it to look for file names only
Set it to look for "any word"
Set it to ignore case
Set it to include invisible files and folders

You can delete any files that EasyFind finds by highlighting them and then click on the Move To Trash icon.

After you have found and removed all of the offending files, restart your Mac.
