Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum! :D

I have a problem with a TP-Link software.
I bought a tp-link archer T2UH, but the wireless utility software doesn't work on my macbook pro(with macOS 10.13). There are a green icon in the menu bar. If I click on this icon appears the voice "show wireless utility", but if I click on this voice nothing happens. Why?

Welcome to our forums.

Make sure the wireless utility provided by TP-Link is for your Mac and works with macOS High Sierra. How about telling us what exactly you're trying to do?

If you have not already downloaded the installation manual and setup instructions, I advise you to do so first and then come back and ask. Here is the download link for your T2UH.

I wont to try to connect the T2UH to the wireless network.

I have already read the user manual. I downloaded the driver and the software. Mac recognizes the pen because in system report>USB there is the voice "USB 3.0>Wifi". But the software "Tplink wireless utility" doesn't work. There are the process, there are the icon on the status bar, but the windows for the connection(for connect the T2UH to the wireles network) doesn't open. If I click on the icon and I click on the voice "Show wireless utility", nothing appears. I don't know why.

Ps: I'm sorry for my english. It's not very good, I know.

It's very difficult for us to try to help as we are not sitting there with you observing what's going on. It appears from your IP address that you are posting from Germany. I do not know if TP-Link has tech support available for you in Germany but if they do, it would be best to contact them and have them help with the setup.

Most routers are easy to setup. Usually, they are setup by a firmware menu which can be brought up by typing in the IP address of the router. Some routers have an easy access setup utility which I suspect your TP-Link has but it seems it is not working right for you. It might be best if you did not use the TP-Link utility and instead access the router firmware menu directly. You will need to read the manual to learn how to do that.

Again, if TP-Link has support in Germany, it would be best to contact them and ask for help.

If I looked up the correct device their manual doesn't even mention Mac support. Has it ever worked on your Mac?

I suspect one issue is the deriver, I used a similar device once and had driver issues. It worked for a while until I did an OS upgrade and stopped working even though the computer knew the device was there. The manufacturer did not have an updated driver. I had to find out what wireless chip was in the device and go to that manufacturer to find a driver.

I use a TP Link router, and here is a list of drivers available for Archer and other models. Whilst I have stuck with Sierra OS X.12 at this stage, note TP Link support says the driverds are suitable for OS X.7 to OS X.11.

The only reason you would need a driver for any router is so that you can use their built in utility. Any router can be used without a driver by accessing the firmware directly. I have a special router that is for FIOS and believe me, the FIOS people know absolutely nothing about a Mac or macOS. I simply access the router thru its IP address and can make all the adjustments, without a problem.

I'm fairly certain his TP Link Archer or Harry's can be accessed thru its IP address directly.

That's true Charlie but if you put that model into a search engine it doesn't come back with results for a router. The results seem to come back to a USB dongle that could be used to replace a faulty wireless access/Airport card. See this pdf as one example.

That's why I asked the OP if this device had ever worked with their Mac. I've used similar devices before and OS changes, particularly upgrades, often broke the setup in the same way that it apparently has for the OP.

If this is such a dongle it may take some internet sleuthing to see what wireless chip is being used and find a Mac driver for that chip.

Hey Sly:

You're correct, his Archer model is indeed a USB WiFi Dongle and it does need a driver. It does say though that macOS 10.7 thru 10.10 is supported. I'm very leery of any dongle that's advertised as being supported for macOS. I've used them for Windows and they work real well there. As a matter of fact, I had one that I used for years that was by Microsoft. I just threw it away the other day when I cleaned out my junk closet.

I used one a few years ago to add wireless to a first generation Mac Pro. It worked reasonably well for some time with minor hints because I had to click a button in the software to actually log into my network. That was a minor, but somewhat annoying, change from the way things typically work with Airport cards or built in Apple hardware.

During one of the updates after SL things broke down a bit. The vendor did not have a newer driver available that worked. After numerous web searchesI found the tip I mentioned earlier that involved finding out what chip was used, going to the chip manufacturer, and downloading a driver for that. I don't remember if I ever got it working though. I think that Mac died before I got the problem solved.

I would be taking it back to point if sale and telling them it will not work with your up to date Mac. I have in the past bought both Telstra and Optus dongles for earlier MBP models, both had issues despite having online support and driver downloads. Since that time I have bought a Boost 4G cordless WiFi router which required no software and is essentially a small mob phone hotspot with no display other than signal strength, battery and WiFi indicators. I can run up to 4 devices off this at once and it works while charging if required. These free standing devices are much more convenient. Maybe your shop would be willing to accept the dongle back off the price of one of these. eg. Huawai R206 only $22.00 here in Indonesia. Of course you will require a sim card and a Telco. I have a prepaid so I can charge it on line when and if I need it.

Gotta agree with Harry. Dongles are more trouble than they're worth when applying them to a Mac. Some work, some don't, and most do not keep up with the latest version of macOS which always seems to break them when updated. The sad part is most dongles work without any sweat at all when using them in Windows. :[
