Trying to Burn OS X Bootable CD

i am trying to burn bootable cds for both 10.3 Panther and 10.4 Tiger. I have Toast Titanium 8 and obviously Disk Utility. The Tiger files are in .dmg and the Panther files are in .iso. Both are under 700 mbs so that they can be burned onto cds. i have tried numerous times to do this and have been unsucessful in every attempt. I have made the bootable disc for both and they show up on the desktop as being there and when i click it the windows opens and i click the installer. Then the window opens that says restart to install. When i do this, nothing ever happens after the restart. either the computer just boots up again or it stays on the apple logo at startup. i have also tried to go into the system preferences and select the cd as the startup disc, the same problems occured
could someone please help me, this is getting very frustratins and im not sure what im doing wrong, whether in the burning process or the install process

Are you trying to make a copy of the install cd, or make a bootable cd that lets you run OS X from the cd? If it's the latter option, then read on....

For OS 10.3, you need a utility called BootCD. It will make a CD that boots 10.3.x off the cd itself.

For OS 10.4, unfortunately the BootCD developer has never released a version to support that, apparently due to some critical changes in the OS. The only utility I know of that supports 10.4 is Coriolis CDMaker. This utility is available to registered users of iDefrag (and possibly iPartition?) from the developer of those apps. From what I recall, they had to license some material from Apple in order to make CDMaker compatible with 10.4, so there won't be a freebie out there.

Doh! I was just looking at today's VersionTracker updates and right there is another 3rd party bootable cd maker... supports 10.4 and 10.5. Clone X is the app name.

thanks for the quick response, but its not exactly what im looking for. First of all, i checked out BootCD and it only runs on panther, im burning the discs on an ibook g4 running 10.5 Leopard, so thats not supported. Also as for Clone X, it says it "is specially designed to create a copy of your system, to duplicate it on other disks or computers, and to repair and reinstall the system in case of problems" so while that might be a useful app, that also will not work. Finally, i would also like to be able to make a copy of an already existing os disc, specifically the leopard disc that i used to install my current OS, so if you know anything about that it would be appreciated

I found a tutorial that explains the correct way to copy a DVD using Disk Utility so it still is bootable. According to the discussion following the article, Toast apparently has some bug in that it loses the boot info.

that sounds helpful and would work well for coping the leopard dvd i have, so thanks. But again, it doesnt solve my problem of trying to burn the images i already have. i have followed those same exact steps for burning the images before that link was posted and it hasnt worked. so anyone else have any suggestions?
