I have a 2015 MacBook Pro OS Monterey 12.7.5. Recently I have been having a scanning issue with my HP ink jet printers (both). I can no longer scan to my computer wirelessly. When opening the Mac scanning function from “System Preferences”, “Printers & Scanners”, “scan”, “open scanner”, the screen normally showing me the pre-scanned image momentarily flashes then disappears. This screen normally offers a range of customizable scanning options (scope of scan, dpi, destination, format, etc.). Accordingly, I cannot utilize wireless scanning on the HP printers which offer this capability. I actually dumped my HP 8725 for a new 9135e thinking the issues were with the old 8725, but it is clear it is with my MacBook. Any ideas?

Do the printers update their software automatically? I know mine does. It's possible that the printer scanner software has updated beyond compatability with macOS Monterey.
Usually it's the other way around, we update our macOS only to find we need updated drivers for our printers. Do you recall your hp offering to update recently?

Recently I have been having a scanning issue with my HP ink jet printers (both).

During both printers and presumably scanners are screwed up, it sounds like it's time to Reset your printer services completely and start over with replacement reinstalls, preferably with compatible software.

You may want to check with the software developer and check for any update problems or compatibility issues.

By updating your HP printer drivers and software from HP’s website. Reinstall the printer software, and check that your scanning application has the necessary permissions under System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy. If problems continue, reset the printing system by right-clicking in Printers & Scanners and selecting “Reset printing system,” then re-add your printers. Try using the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store for scanning, and ensure your MacBook and printer are on the same wireless network. If none of these steps work, it may be a compatibility issue with macOS Monterey.

Have you been able to get your printers working and have you tried or attempted any of the suggestions?

If not have you tried shutting down both your computer and your printers and then turning them both on and booting your Mac and trying again?

Are they connected by USB or are you printing to them over Wireless or AirPrint?

I have not been able to solve the scanning issue wrt seeing the pre-scan screen with the options for the scan. I have tried shutting both units down and re-starting. Everything wireless wrt the printer works fine with the exception of scanning. I am able to scan to a flash drive and transfer the drive to the computer, but I have more limited scan options when do this.

Have you tried using your Image Capture.app and see if it works for scanning if either of your scanners show up in the left sidebar under devices or wherever Apple might list them these days with Monterey.

If that Doesn't Work There's Always View Scan.app that has been a pretty reliable scanner driver over the years when other things don't seem to work.
You can check your models for compatibility anddownload it from here:

If neither of that works, I would give the suggestions from OliviaClaire I'll try and Trash all your printers and associated software, restart your Mac after a Shut Down and then pulled up and try the install again.

At least HP says those models are compatible with Monterey.

Good luck, I hope one of those work for you.

Same here: HP 4630 had to be shut down and re-started every time I tried to use it. I re-installed, re-set, and re-everythinged for about a year, and finally just gave up on HP's crappy Wi-Fi implementation and snaked a USB cable to the thing.
Also got sick of HP's endless attempts to sabotage non-HP ink carts (seemingly the only thing that they ever actually do update), and bought a Brother laser printer for less than a set of HP's carts. I now use the HP for the scanner only. Whatever I eventually replace it with, it won't be an HP.

Well done on sorting out and fixing the HP scanning problem and a good solution.

PS: for wireless scanning, did you ever try looking in the settings of your wireless router to see if they HP all-in-one was listed and or available and selected to be allowed to be used?

It would show up when I re-started it, but would drop off the network a few hours later. Basically, it went silent after a while, and could not be found w/o restarting it.

I just skimmed the thread so my apologies if this has already been mentioned.

When you check the HP site does that model printer have a separate wireless networking app that you could use to set the printer up? We had a Canon inkjet with such software that seemed to be designed that way.

That was some time ago and many vendors have moved away from that kind of setup procedure but HP sometimes does their own thing. It won't take long to check.

Good thought, I use "HP Smart" for my Envy 6020e.

It's not just HP and Monterey!!

I have an Epson XP-7100 which did exactly the same thing using Sequoia.

I removed all of it's software and started from scratch with the Sequoia update for the printer and everytime I went to use it for scanning (or printing) the mac couldn't find the printer and I had to set up wifi again to make it work.

I had always turned off my printer when not in use so I tried leaving it on standby and it worked - for several weeks before returning to the 'I'm not playing mode',obviously realising I'd found a workaround!

The solution - a USB lead from the printer to the router.

Have you tried removing your scanner from your printer scanner preferences or using Apple suggestion to:
Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem

Have you tried using image capture and see if it recognizes your scanner as a device. You may need to click on that option in the left column. And see if it will recognise and connect to your scanner.

Can you scan directly from your HP scanner to your Mac using its front mounted controls?

And if you get desperate I guess you could always try the commercial VueScan:

Just some thoughts and suggestions that might work but I'm sorry I can't guarantee that they will.
