Unofficial holidays cluttering up my calendar

In Calendar, I like seeing the holidays, but I do not like it being cluttered up with "unofficial" holidays -- that is, holidays that are not recognized by most institutions, such as banks, etc. I do not like seeing religious holidays that are not part of my religious tradition (such as Eid-Al Fitr, Juneteenth, etc.).

I understand that, at least in the past and hopefully still today, it was possible to subscribe to various third party calendars. I would like to subscribe to a calendar that lists only traditional American holidays. Call it a Traditional American or Non-Politically Correct calendar. I would also like for these changes to apply also to my iOS devices.

I would like not to have to laboriously create all the holidays myself, but I will if I have to. I should not have to have any holidays forced on me that I am not interested in. Advice appreciated.

A quick search of the Internet came up with this: Welcome to iCalShare

I haven't used it but it looks like what you might need.

EDIT: I tried it and it seem to work, but then nothing shows up on my Calendar. But do a search for "calendar subscription" and there are a lot of hits for you.

When you "subscribe" to calendars. usually they are not editable. You may want to create your own personal holidays calendar.

I guess I'm in agreement, but, I just ignore them as much as possible. Of course, I see them, but then I move on.

Maybe this might help, but it looks like a bit of editing might be necessary and that's unfortunate in that Apple hasn't made any attempt to change anything or provide a provision to easily customize an existing list:

It seems that it would be pretty handy and useful if some holidays could be shown differently that are not observed by the user in order to see what others in the world might be up to for that particular day. Or maybe just use those dates in a separate calendar???

PS: I just wish Calendar had an easier way to show me what its red numbered tab appointments actually are that show up on my calendar app in my Dock.

Hello? Hello? Beuler? Beuler? Is anybody listening? Is this thing on?

Read my post #3. The link takes you to a website with the US Federal Holidays on a calendar. No editing, no changing, just the US Fed holidays. That is what the OP said he wanted, just holidays recognized by banks, etc.

I thought I read somewhere that one's preferences on the Mac also apply to iOS, but maybe I'm thinking of browser bookmarks. Is the procedure for subscribing to calendars similar on iOS? If so, maybe I could subscribe to one holiday calendar on Mac and another on iPad and see which one I like best.

Don't forget that you can always make your own personalized calendar.

Use one of the subscribed holidays as a guide if you like, and then include or don't include the dates you don't want to create your own personalized calendar.

You can then share it on your various Macs and iDevices if you like or with your friends or family.

Thanks for that tip Patrick. I might be able to solve a problem with subscribed calendars that way.

I currently subscribe to two racing events calendars (NASCAR and IRL) as well as two NFL calendars (Saints and Cowboys). I'd like to combine the two racing calendars into one calendar and combine the two two football calendars into a single football.

Sports calendars that are subscribed to usually get updated throughout the season

Yes, and these are updating correctly throughout the season. That's not my issue. In retrospect, I did not explain things very well.

Once football season starts, there could be as many as four different sports events appearing on any given Sunday -- in addition to whatever else is on tap for that day. I want to consolidate this a bit and have both football entries and racing entries together.

In lieu of that, having all sports entries together is also acceptable.

Gheese... All I can say is you are going to be one very busy fellow and that also looks like you are probably going to have to buy a few more TV sets so you can watch a few of them in your man cave... and maybe a few video recorders... If you ever get them all consolidated and updated properly and accurately for you to view them... 😏

We are currently using YouTube TV as our provider, so it's easy to record several shows at a time. Once football starts, I tend to be a little choosier about which races I WATCH.

Newer DVRs can record more than one channel at a time. If you by chance have a sports package for your cable TV or Dish, the provider will normally include a DVR with the cable or control box. As a matter of fact, most modern cable boxes have a built in DVR. (Extra rental cost)

I compared YouTube TV prices with my current cable cost. If I wanted the same channels as I'm receiving now plus high speed internet, it would cost more per month with a YouTube TV contract.

For us, it worked out to be less money for YouTube TV compared to cable, but only because we were willing to give up several channels. With cable, getting TCM required adding a tier of channels that we hardly ever watched. With YouTube TV we get TCM without carrying those extra channels so the overall cost is lower.

Most of the sports events I watch regularly are on networks like ESPN, Fox Sports, NBCSN, or one of the major networks so no need for the extra sports packages. There was a time I might have been willing to pay for the Major League Baseball package but not now.
