I'm getting this error while trying to reinstall Seirra after a restore. I cannot create a bootable drive because my only other computer is a PC. This is my first Mac.

We need a whole lot more information. First what is the year and model of your mac. What version of OS X are you using. Are you reinstalling from Time Machine or some other app?

Can you do an internet install? To do this you need to power on your mac. Immediately after hearing the Mac boot chime, hold down Command+Option+R – if you see the Apple logo you waited too long and need to reboot and try again.

This article gives more detail: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201314

Without more information that is the best I can do. ;)

BTW: "Untrusted_cert_title" means you are trying to download from an untrusted site that could possibly have malware.

I am using a Mac Mini I bought mere months ago. I am getting the error when I try to Internet install. Since I did a restore I don't have any form of OSX, but it was the latest version of Seirra before the restore. I already know about the boot menu because I had to use it to restore. The error comes when I try to Internet install as soon as it tries to start. Unless apples servers contain malware I doubt that's the problem.

I doubt apple has malware too but that is what the error indicates but it is probably due to an incorrect date and time on your mac. I found this suggestion : "This error can be because the certificate couldn't be verified because a wrong system time. You can check by executing `date` from the terminal (is located under the utilities).

To fix the date execute: `date MMDDHHMMYY` (M=Month, D=Day, H=Hour in 24-hour notation, M=Minute and Y=last 2 digits of year).

After this you can install Mac OS..."

This article also has information on how to use terminal to correct the date issue:

Can you explain what you are trying to do with Terminal during Internet Recovery? Maybe we can help in another way.:)

I am trying to reinstall sierra on a macbook pro after changing hdd to an new samsung ssd.
Always get an untrusted_cert_title error, when trying to reinstall with internet recovery. So I assume that the time settings are wrong and I want to correct them.

Did you bstart by formatting the Samsung to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as they do come Windows NTFS format. Did you clone the old drive to an external? The easiest way would then have be to clone from the external tonthe Samsung.

It is not my macbook, and I didn´t replace the hdd myself. A friend brought it to me, because he wasn´t able to get it up and running after replacing hdd with ssd. An existing time machine backup also can´t be recovered.
The SSD is shown in harddisk utility as Macintosh HD. It shows the full capacity. Nothing to delete. I´m away for the weekend, but will check if ssd is properly formatted on monday.

I was able to boot a linux live-cd and set date and time. The Internet Installer ran until it came to writing to the ssd, then I got a black screen, heard the cd-rom check as if it were rebooting and got a white screen again, after a while the folder symbol with the question mark.
Will try to use the old harddisk and see if the failure is there too. Seems to me that either the ssd or the sata-controller is defective.
Will continue to report how things go on.

Take it to Apple who know what they are doing., It is getting to be a bigger mess.

With an optical drive it is getting pretty on in years and Samsung SSDs do not play nice with older Macs.

The guys from Apple advised my friend to update his macbook pro with a samsung ssd ...so much about they know what they are doing.
I guess you mean a standard hdd, when you talk about an optical drive.

No I mean a Samsung EVO which is a 6Gb/ps speed and much too fast for older, pre 2009 MacBooks.

This is always the problem when posters will not supply model and operating system details. All guesswork. And again no regarding the optical drive. Only to give some idea of the model as Macs have not had optical drives since 2012, depending on the precise model.

In startup Disk page, in 3rd tab you will find Terminal, change the date, the command is "date MMDDHHYY" MM-month DD-day HH-Hour(if the time is 3:20 PM you write 1520) and YY- year.

Thanks
