I am trying to update my girlfriends macbook pro to the current High Sierra. It is running 10.7.5 at the moment and will not let me upgrade directly to HS. It says I need at least version 10.8 to be able to get the upgrade. The only way I have found to get 10.8 is to pay 30$ for it. I'm curious if that is the only upgrade I will need to pay for or will I need to pay for every one in between my version and the current version.

I do not use mac so any help is greatly appreciated.

5. Install. (no cost)

Early model MBP can handle up to Lion, OS X.7, some to El Capitan OS X.11 so precise model details always helps.

Apple Menu > "About this Mac"
What does that say about the OS, the MacBook?

Mid-2012 MacBook Pro can run the latest OS version...so no troubles there.

OS 10.8 was the last OS version that you needed $$ to purchase. Everything after that was free download.
