I cannot upload upload files to Google Drive from my MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021). M1 chip, Monterey v. 12.5.1.

No specific error, just a Connection lost error

Connection is fine and I can upload just fine from my Windows machines. This has a company image installed so may that's blocking something, but I can upload to Google Drive using my other company machines.

Assuming that's not the cause, what else can I check re: permissions and security on my Mac to fix this?

Any guidance is most appreciated.

Did you look in System preferences > Security & Privacy. Select the Privacy tab and look for Files and Folders.

Yes I did. The only available apps that are displayed are these:

No Google Drive.

Other thoughts?

I have Google Drive listed. What version of Google Drive are you running on your Mac? My Google Drive version is 62.0.2.0.

@Westside Charlie

Try this:

Go back into System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > "Full Disk Access" instead of Files & Folders.

At the very bottom you will see a padlock on the left. Click on it, put in your Admin Password and the padlock will open.

Now, click on the "+" sign. This will likely take you to Applications (if not, navigate your way there). Scroll down Applications till you come to Google Drive.app.. Click on it. Then click on "Open".

That will give Google Drive full access and then you shall be able to upload to it in the usual way. (in fact, you may now see Google Drive in the Finder Sidebar).

@IWT, Google Drive should not need Full Access. It's not listed in there on my system.

Yeah, I don't see Google Drive there either -- just Google Chrome. How can I see what version of Google Drive I'm running?

Just realized I may need to use the Desktop version of Google Drive. I'll try that....
I have the desktop version. What or how are you trying to upload the files?

Actually, I have never used Desktop version, and have just installed it. All I want to do is drag a file into a folder on Google Drive (browser version).

I do this all the time from my various windows machines. Why can't I do this on my Mac?

In Finder > Applications do you have Google Drive app installed?

Yes or No, because my previous post was on the assumption that you did. Apologies.

Ian, no worries. I did NOT have the Google Drive app installed. But, your mentioning it got me thinking I should try it. I did install it but it didn't solve my problem, which is simply dragging files to a Google Drive folder. Either some security block I have no control over is causing this, OR, there is something I can do to fix this.

I'll keep poking around....

Finally got back to this. It turns out that by installing the Google Drive app and setting appropriate permissions, I can now upload to Google Drive. Trying to upload to Google Drive through the browser won't work but this solution will work for me.

Thanks to all for the helpful guidance.!

Hi folks! I have downloaded Google Drive for desktop to my macbook pro with Monterey 12.6. I can see the app listed in Finder>Applications>GoogleDrive.dmg. However, when I go to System Preferences>Security & Privacy>click the lock to make changes>Privacy>Full Disk Access>Applications>GoogleDrive.dmg is grey and I cannot click on it.
How do I set the appropriate permissions in order to be able to click on/select this app?
Actually, I'm not able to add any apps to Files & Folders either - the +/- icon is greyed out too.

Help?

GoogleDrive.dmg is NOT the app, it is a disk image that contains the installer, I would bet. Click on the dmg file, it should open and mount on the desktop, and in Finder, then look inside to see what is there. I don't know use any Google products, but the installer could be a variety of things. Maybe somebody who actually uses it will come along and provide details on how to install.
