Hi. I'm Scott. I'm currently upgrading a mid 2010 macbook pro that I got a great deal on eBay. I have always wanted a mac ever since I used a friend's mac a number of years ago. I'm excited to finally have one.

Hi. I just got a used macbook pro on eBay and the seller said all it needed was a new battery. But when I took the bottom off to replace the battery something was telling me that it might have water damage. How can i tell I it does?

A clear sign is burned components...but if you suspect anything bad, you are MUCH better of returning the MBP before long to avoid having the seller say you caused any water damage..

Hi Scott:

We combined your threads together here as one thread since they both refer to the same MacBook Pro.

And in addition to what Ashwin told you (great advice), you might look for signs of corrosion which would indicate a spill or water damage.

What does corrosion or burned components look like? I'm really not sure what to look for.

Try this:

https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/47700/Water+damage+indicators+-+location

"Here are the locations of those LSI indicators: "
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/10/15/inside_the_new_macbooks_lsi_battery_hd_and_ram.html

Should be close enough I hope for you to check.

Liquid submersion indicators

As with the iPhone and MacBook models release earlier this year, the new MacBooks contain "liquid submersion indicators" or LSI, small patches affixed internally around the keyboard bay that change from white to red when subjected to moisture. These are in place "to help discover accidental damage to the computer," according to sources familiar with Apple's phrasing, but are clearly in place to prevent users from demanding that Apple fix damages caused by liquid spills.

PS: I'd suggest that if that Mac had "corrosion or burned components" it probably wouldn't even boot or turn On. ;)

* Is the computer working 100%?
* What is "telling you" that it may have water damage?

Bottom line. If you have concerns...return the computer to the eBay seller ASAP & get your money refunded.
