When I was sent a WhatsApp message with photos, these use to automatically appear in Apple Photos, however I received last Monday (plenty of time for the app to do its thing) some photos and these are not in my Apple Photos. I am thinking I have changed a setting, but I cannot find it. Anybody help me please.

Is this happening on your Mac or your iPhone or IDevice???

If either of the latter two, there seem to be some changes you could look at here:

I'm sorry I don't know, I don't use WhatsApp or any IDevice.

All three devices have exactly the same photos, and none with recent WattsApp photos.

Try this:

Open WhatsApp on your iPhone. At the bottom, click on Chats (it's under Account, Privacy).

When in Chats, second item down is "Save to Camera Roll" and turn it ON.

This automatically saves photos & videos you receive on WhatsApp to your iPhone's Camera Roll.

That should do it.

Ian, this is under settings not Chats, but I found it and it is on already.

Okay, great. The standard response to an item/app, whatever, not working is to Turn it OFF. Reboot the Device. Then go back to the setting and Turn it back ON.

I've found that useful so many times. No harm done either.

I am in a group with my kids, and the last update to photos was in March this year, and in the mean time I have had quite a few photos from them. Oddly, I had a photo from somebody else 2 weeks ago and that has gone in to photos, I was going to blame WhatApp on my Mac, but it is not that!!

Another thought (could be equally useless, but...)

On the iPhone > Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos

Here, you will see all the apps that have requested access to Photos app. WhatsApp should be there and should show "All Photos".

If it shows, "Selected Photos" or "None", tap on WhatsApp and you will find three options: Choose "All Photos".

Give that a try. It might explain why some pics go to the Photos app and others do not.

Ouch! Well my two offers have been less than successful. Can't explain why some photos go to Photos app and others don't. Sorry Jim B.

Ian, did an internet search and besides your suggestions, the only other solution was to delete and reinstall WhatsApp, now complete ans still no change.
As it does not seem to be all my chats just a certain couple, I can only think it is a change made to them, I will just wait and see, it is not the end of the world, and there are ways around it, just that automatically putting them in Photos was simple :)

Have a look at some of these, maybe there's something in one that might trigger what change might have been made somewhere somehow...

BTW: does WhatsApp actually have your admin user permissions in your security settings to install photos into your users' Photos.app Library, if I understand correctly that is what is supposed to be happening????

Clearing cache files always seems to be a suggested solution but I can't recall if that was suggested and tried or not. And I'm sorry I don't really know any fix and I don't use WhatsApp or know how it works, especially with installing photos you might receive.

Of all the suggestions provided from the link, the only one not carried out previously was WhatsApp on the Web, which I have now tried, and will wait to see what happens, as I appreciated these things don't happen instantaneously (though occasionality they do :)) .

Could it be a setting on the senders phone/device?

My thoughts, that the limitation is not on my system. I can live with it.

Quick update:
I carried out all the various advised actions, and the missing photos from the specific chat did not appear in photos, however, today I was sent some photos in that chat and they are in photos, my assumption is that what was carried out previously has solved the issue, but the previous chats cannot be added "after the event". So currently all seems well.
