On my iMac Sonoma 14.5 when I log into John Lewis the site opens but then darkens
and is unresponsive.
Other sites are fine.
On my Macbook Pro it is fine.
I am using Chrome:-
Chrome is up to date
Version 126.0.6478.115 (Official Build) (arm64)

Any ideas?

Well, the site loads for me, also on Sonoma 14.5 here. Links on the home page take me to other pages. This seems to indicate that my first suspicion, a problem on their end, is not true. Perhaps you should look for any Cookies the site leaves on your computer, and delete them, then try starting over.

It worked for me, too. It did darken with a screen that wanted me to select the cookie setting, but as soon as I selecte "Reject all" the screen brightened and the site worked fine.

Have you tried rebooting the iMac? Do you have any ad blocker or pop-up blocker installed on the iMac?

Did you have to delete all the cookies?
Is there a way just to delete the one cookie.
I tried but could not find a cookie list?

Can you get the option to edit the cookies for the page in question?

That site does exactly the same thing for me, but I am not a member so of course I didn't and couldn't sign in or attempt to make any changes to attempt to do so.

Using an old OS El Capitan 10.11.6 and the Legacy version of Google Chrome Version 103.0.5060.134 (Official Build) (x86_64)

I've never seen a website do such a thing before that I can recall. Just for what it's worth and I'm sorry I can't provide any suggestions.

Do you get any changes if you try to log in, and does it work properly if you do and can login? I assume not.

It doesn't really have anything to do with cookies, directly. EU law, which UK follows, requires every website to allow first-time visitors to allow or deny the site permission to put cookies on the visitor's computer. Once you make that decision, you are allowed to go to the site itself. You don't need to amend any cookie, or cookies, and the option only appears once per visitor. So, what I was wondering was if you have NOT visited the site before, if it was trying to get your options for cookies. Let's not get off the track here, the cookies aren't important, it's just whether or not you have set the preferences for them or not.

Interesting that I don't get it in Mavericks, running Chrome Legacy version 124.

Maybe the screen resolution is not optimized for the site.

I don't know if you want to go through all the hits from a Google search on your problem but it seems the John Lewis.com website has been providing access problems for many users for quite some time now.

Certainly not indicative of a proper normal site so God only knows what's wrong or why some cannot access or navigate it.

You could have a look here if you like and maybe you could find a solution or reason for the/your problem:

Certainly is a strange and odd problem.
