I thought it was stored with the tracks themselves but I have all my music on an external HD I can move from computer to computer. On the main computer all the artwork is there. On the secondary computer some is missing, usually a few tracks on an album. On the thirdary (?) computer a lot of artwork is missing. This tells me the artwork is stored somewhere on the comput4er but I don't know where.

I believe normally, the files are actually stored in the "Album Artwork" folder located in the same folder as your iTunes library file.

~/Music/iTunes/Album\ Artwork

That's great but the primary computer still runs iTunes and the artwork is all there. The new computers run Music and the only thing there is something called "Music Library.musiclibrary." It is 18.4Mb and I have about 2000 albums. My old iTunes .itl file was less than 200Kb. Do you think the artwork is in .musiclibrary? I guess it could be.

On my PC under iTunes, I agree that is where the artwork is, but since my move to the Mac, and using "Music" I can no longer find the artwork, there is no iTunes folder, and the artwork seems to be embedded in the music.

I think I've just discovered it is in the .musiclibrary file. I just opened music without having the HD attached and it was all there, except for the ones that are missing.

Most of the stuff I don't have is from digitized vinyl and I have the artwork saved with the tracks. Apple can provide most of the CD artwork but there are a few exceptions. So far I've found all of these on Discogs.

My vinyl artwork is definitely imbedded. I don't know about the CDs. However, as I just discovered, the primary repository seems to be the .musiclibrary file.
