I very often get the message when I try to print a document "Printer in use". How can I stop that to print my current document? Even shutting it down overnight does not solve the problem.

I think this will help. It helped me about 20 years ago, but it's probably not the same procedure as then.

Lot's of people have had this problem, and not just with Canon printers. Windows users don't seem to have the problem. It appears to be a Macintosh problem, specifically with Bonjour.

Try disabling IPv6 in the printer:

If that doesn't work, there is a potential solution at the bottom of this Web page:

If all else fails, try contacing Canon tech support and see if a recent fix has been developed:

Also, just to add a belated comment to the problem and a possible cause:

In your printer's open print queue window, make sure there isn't a listing shown and the printer possibly on pause. There should be an X or use the delete key to get rid of the waiting Print job.

Also, I find keeping an alias to your printer(s)/scanner drivers in the Dock makes access to the print queue window much easier.
