I am getting a lot, and I mean a lot of ads, lately. I have been using the paid versions of 1Blocker and the paid version of Adblock Plus for Safari. I was doing fine until a few months ago and then started getting tons of ads. I am using a Mac Mini 2024, Sequoia 15.3.2.
Safari is updated to version 18.3.2. What are people running on their Macs to block the spam?

Thank you

I use Brave browser. It comes with blockers built in that I customize or even shut off if needed.

I use content blockers with my browsers.Specifically AdGuard for Safari. I only use the free version.

I moved to Brave, not quite as interactive as Safari, but no ads.

To at least some extent it comes down to exposure. If you make yourself "visible" by clicking links, accepting cookies and visiting high powered advertising sites you will get some ads.
The best way to handle that is to erase your browsing history and cookies. Of course that only works if you do not revisit the same sites.
Alternatively use a browser that actively blocks ads like Brave. To my knowledge there is no other browser that offers the anti tracking and ad blocking options provided by Brave. I have it on all of my devices.

I agree with all that's been posted. I use Brave which, as said, cuts out most of the unwanted. But there are some instances where I find Safari more useful and in that situation I use ADGUARD, paid version.

I highly recommend Brave. It doesn't let a single ad through. It's also fast, highly compatible with odd Web sites, frequently updated, highly secure, and very full featured.

Brave browser (free)
https://brave.com

If you download it, make sure left you implement these settings right away to remain secure and ad-free:

Brave menu —> Preferences —> Permissions —> Notifications —> set Don’t Allow Sites To Send Notifications

Brave menu —> Preferences —> Content —> set Don't allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirects

Though on the whole I agree, however, there are some trusted sites that use pop-ups, my bank for instance, when I view messages, so generally no pop-ups but I have allowed them on a couple of sites.

Mine are in settings, not preferences, and I cannot fine "permissions"

May I ask how you figured out what was blocking the pop up? I am having the same problem with the "rewards" site of my bank.

Is it an issue to have Safari, Firefox, and Brave on my Mac? There are a couple of important sites that Safari won't work with but Firefox will.

Clicked allow pops up for that site and my statements appeared.

I actually have those 3 browsers on my MBP.
I occasionally have Brave and one of the other browsers open at the same time with no issues at all.
