I got a book off of Audible but instead of downloading it to my Computer it is giving me this message :

To play this audiobook, you’ll need to authorize this computer for your Audible account. Would you like to go to Audible’s website now to do this?

Is this telling me the only way i can access this is through Audible so i am unable to put it on my spouses ipod/pad ?

Not meaning to be para-noid but i am about anything Amazon and therefore Audible.

That is what it sounds like to me. You may be able to add it into the Books app, as that can play audiobooks. I'm not sure what files types they use.

Not sure what this means? Is this a yes or no to Amazon?

According to the latest information I can find Audible allows you to have up to 10 devices associated with one account. That includes tablets, smartphones, computers, etc. In the early days of iTunes there was a similar limit in place.

The limit improbably cumulative so if you authorize a device and then sell it the device continues to count toward your total. You should be able to put it on your wife's device and have her be able to play it without issues as long as you haven't exceeded the 10 device limit.

Before you make any decisions about how to do this have a look at Audible's Family Library Sharing option. I just became aware of this while looking up information for this answer but it might meet your needs.

Sorry Bob that was pretty bad grammar.
What I meant is that anything from Amazon makes me think twice about being a customer. But that's just me. :) Lots of PPL do including me at times.

I have used Audible in the past and appreciate their membership offer but I only use it sporadically as I tend to be too busy to listen to long books as I used to.

I used to use Amazon lot, and I even worked for them for a few years, but lately not so much. I'm letting my Prime membership expire when it is time to renew.

You can login to your Audible account in a web browser, go to your Library, find the book in question then click 'Listen now'. That opens a separate little browser window which 'whisper syncs' with the online book so it remembers your place when listening.

I have discovered that I can authorize a number of others to DL or listen to each book. I have to sign them in and if I recall the number being ten, so I guess that is fair enough. If i buy a book i can share it with a few friends.

Thanks !
