Hello all,

I have been using Outlook (Classic) for Mac on my iMac (Sonoma 14.4.1) for years, but never resolved this issue : it doesn't let me change the order of email accounts in the left-hand list.
A Google search turned up some solutions that just did not work - the accounts do not move with the mouse.

I suspect that either 1) there is not a solution or 2) there is a simple solution that I just haven't found yet.

Thanks in advance

Ann

PS also using Outlook on my iPad but I'll deal with that later.

I th you can order them in the favourite box, so you can drag what you need there, personally, I just drag my in boxes there.

Hi Ann. I don't have a direct answer to your problem, but have two things to mention:

1. The latest version of Sonoma is 17.5 Worth updating I would say.

2. Have you had a read of this:

Not likely that I've helped you but.............

Ian
Hi Ian, Thanks for the reply.

I am a bit puzzled at why you sent me to that link for Outlook for Mac as I already have Microsoft 365 (or Office 365, I can never remember what its most recent name is) with Outlook installed. Maybe because it offers support question/answer and maybe I should switch to New Outlook? I'll try and see if that works.

As for the Sonoma version - that is weird. I got a nudge this morning to upgrade to... Sonoma 14.5 - which I did. I didn't find a reference to 17.5 on Apple's site. Could your suggestion have been a typo?

YESSSS ! It worked this time. I tried it yesterday but I tried to move the title (name of the email address) instead of the inbox. Let's hope it works. As simple as that. Thanks for the tip.

17.5 on Apple's site

Ann: Entirely my fault:sorrysign (that is for iOS). Sonoma latest is 14.5.

But you seem out of the woods thanks to Jimmysb and others.

Hello Ian, Hello all,

I'm coming back to this issue because although designating accounts as favourites takes them up to the top of the accounts list, it doesn't really resolve my problem which is that I want to move my Gmail account up to the top or just under my default account - and push my two lower-priority accounts to the bottom of the list.

I have seen advice to drag and drop the accounts in order, but suspect that refers to Outlook on PCs.

--> Any more ideas?

I'll try to do better, Ann ;)

See if this works:

Or this suggestion from Microsoft:

Open Outlook and collapse all the accounts so that only the account names are visible. To collapse accounts, select the arrow to the left of the account name.
Click and hold the account you want to move and then drag the account up or down to a different position.
Close and reopen Outlook.

Sorry Ian for the late reply, I didn't check for updates...
Anyway, the second option - adding numbers to the account names - indeed worked. I had seen it before but hadn't quite grasped what it was talking about.
The first option - to collapse and then drag the accounts to the desired positions - didn't work in Legacy Outlook, which is what I'm using until I can't any more or until I have time to get used to the New Outlook.
When I tried to drag the account names, nothing happened, ie I couldn't "grasp" the account with the cursor and drag it to a new position.

Terrific. Really pleased for you. Are you settled now in respect of your initial post? AOK as they?

Have you tried Outlook > Settings > Accounts? There is an account list on the left side with a "..." drop down at the lower right of the list box, with a "Move Down" option. This allows me to order accounts as desired.

Tom! You're a genius!!
I went into Setting>Accounts and selected the account I wanted on top and the selected "make default" in the three dots and BAM! Back to the top!

Any advice on preventing outlook 365 from opening all of my accounts when I open the program?

Thanks!
