Hey guys, 2017 MBP, these are the steps I have followed below, but I'm getting that error in macOS Utilities after selecting Reinstall macOS then clicking on 'Continue'.

Step 1: Restart into macOS Recovery Mode

  1. Shut down your Mac: If it's currently on, click the Apple logo in the top left corner and choose Shut Down.
  2. Enter macOS Recovery:
    • Turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold Command + R until the Apple logo or a spinning globe appears. This will boot your Mac into Recovery Mode.

Step 2: Erase the Hard Drive (Macintosh HD)

  1. Once in Recovery Mode, you should see the macOS Utilities screen. Choose Disk Utility and click Continue.
  2. In Disk Utility, select your main drive (usually called Macintosh HD) from the list on the left.
  3. Click the Erase button at the top of the window.
  4. Set the following options:
    • Name: You can keep it as "Macintosh HD" or give it a custom name.
    • Format: Choose APFS (for SSD) or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (for HDD).
    • Scheme: Choose GUID Partition Map.
  5. After setting these options, click Erase. This will completely wipe your hard drive, removing all data.

Step 3: Reinstall macOS High Sierra

  1. After the drive has been erased, close Disk Utility.
  2. You should be back at the macOS Utilities screen. Choose Reinstall macOS and click Continue.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions:
    • Agree to the terms and conditions.
    • Choose your Macintosh HD (or whatever you named the drive) as the destination for installation.

Update. I restarted the MBP after my previous post, this time there was the spinning globe which took while but then shows now an exclamation mark in a triangle over the globe, with the text apple.com/support -2003F?

After posting here, my further research showed it should be a networking issue. So I changed the network and now it seems to be installing, will report back, thx.

Had to got to Apple Support for help as everything I was trying was showing one error or another. But we got it done, it updated to Monterey using the Shift+Option+Command+R at startup
