Thank you Thank you Thank you

Here is that path i would follow;
First Step;

then find DVD that came with computer and press the power button and immediately insert the DVD and once it goes in Hold the D key down.
When it boots up hit return and then select which Hardware test you want to run, probably a good idea to do the extended test even though it may take an hour to an hour and a half to run through.

If that does not identify any issues then shutdown and restart holding down the C and it should boot up off of the DVD

If you are no further ahead then it is time to take it to an apple repairer.

You EFFING genius!!! This worked like a charm for my new 320gb western digital HDD.

The kernel error is a pain, but this solves it!

Thank you so much

so i did everything in this thread and a few things.
can't do command-option-p-r meaning it doesn't even do anything.
trying to boot into safe mode just makes it stick on the apple w/ loading screen for forever.
trying to insert the disk and press either "d" or "c" does absolutely nothing.
and i've only had the computer less than two months.

Fix kernel , this worked for me

You need to have osx dvd, after you turn ur osx on insert dvd osx after the sound try to press and hold option command r+p about 5 times and each time it will appear black screen and will start again. After 5 times holding option command P+R start holdin just option key and ur system will ask you to boot form dvd. Then install the os again but dont erase ur drive because u will lose ur data. This worked for me, hope this will worked for u too...

hi i was updating my macbook when i closed the moniter and opened it back up then it shut down. so then when i tried to turn it on. this came out.
(reading other things i found out taht i shouldn't have done that)

I to have a macbook that when starting loads up a kernel panic... page similar to the OP.

The only thing I can do is get it to boot from CD and choose to install Mac OS from CD.

Then I have the option to install to either: a) Time Machine Backups. OR b) disk0s2.

I can only get any further by choosing option b).

Then if I choose mac update OR archive and install the installation aborts.

If I choose Erase and install it freezes towards the end of the process.

Any help would be appreciated.
