I just upgraded my early-2011 Macbook Pro from Mavericks to Macos Sierra on advice 'for security' but don't need Siri. Siri is not currently enabled but pops up annoying windows to install or configure it. Can I either delete Siri or stop its prompts? Thanks all.

Go to System Preferences/Siri and uncheck "Enable Siri".

OK. I see I didn't read your post properly. Allow Siri to set itself up, then disable it. That should stop the prompts.

Thanks ... but what would happen if I just dragged Siri from Applications to Trash ... or is that asking for trouble with orphan files in library etc?

No idea. Haven't tried it. I'd be wary of messing with it in case it breaks anything else.

I have Siri set up on my MBP and never get prompts.

Is it still nagging and did you try as Kevin suggested?

Otherwise, maybe check out some sites like:

or just use google for your question for some other suggestions:

You can always ask Siri how to disable it ;)

Ha ha! I've just about stopped asking silly questions of Siri but I would do as kevinJS suggests, let it set itself up and forget it. I never get prompts either. You can even untick Show In Menu Bar and drag its shortcut off the Dock but I would not try uninstalling it.

Clearly programmed by HAL 9000 ... this calls for a weightless visit to the memory banks.

I'll activate and then disable Siri, counterintuitive though it may be!

Haha. That's funnier than you might think.

Apparently, Siri has a surprise in store if you ask her three times to "Open the pod bay doors". (No, I haven't tried it.)

"Beam me up, Scotty" is another one you may want to experiment with.

Must admit that unless I actually activate it, from the icon in the dock, I don't know it's there! However, I believe one activates it when you do the initial installation of Sierra so re install Sierra and just don't activate it?

Just tried the "open the pod bay doors" and after three it just says it will report you to the intelligence agency???

When I set up Sierra I just said do not enable Siri and that was it. I don't get any nagging of any kind. Now if I click on the icon it asks if I want to enable Siri.

I haven't upgraded yet. Is Siri more annoying than helpful the reason behind not wanting her/it ?

I don't know as I haven't upgraded yet either, and it may be a while before I even do so.

But what really fascinates me is all the hype about macOS Siri when Apple's own Speech Recognition has been available for ages and no Internet connection even needed to use it, at least when Apple's OS X actually supported it.

Or did Apple drop any or all support for any or all OS X Speech Recognition with their release of Sierra. And how many actually used or took advantage of anything that the Speech Recognition could provide???

But I guess that Siri is now just the "new and improved" version of Speech Recognition, but now an Internet connection is required to use it. Go figure…

Don't know if the problem is Siri related but, since installing Sierra, I am finding that my wifi connection is dropped so have frequently to reconnect in settings.
