Ok. I run into a bug, I think, and my computer decided to format my external hard drive with all my videos and my iMovie Library. I can get at least most of the filming data back with file recovery tools but I just can't locate the .imovielibrary file. You'd think this would be easy as it should be the biggest file there. Where is it? Could it have a different ending? There is this big .MBX file that I don't recognize. Could it be the file I'm looking for?

Start with the versions we are dealing with?

iMovie?
macOS?
Mac?
External HDD?

Also, I will assume you don't have any type of a backup system in place?

Time machine?
Clone?
Drag & Drop or Copy & Paste?
Other?

Also, have you tried the external drive with a different Mac, if you have one available? Just to see if the other Mac can see what's on there?

Ok. Mac OS Monteray 12.0.1, MacBook Pro (15", 2017) iMovie v., 10.3. External HD LaCie 8TB. I have a Time machine, but it doesn't back up the external drive as it has several terabytes of data. I used Disk Drill to get a preview of my data on my mac but it doesn't seem to be able to help me with the library issue.

I can see stuff like this and it sort of looks like files that could be part of the iMovie library. There are .imovieevents and the folders seem to contain a single project each. Can this be reconstructed into a working library?
