Thanks Jimmsb & Rod, I will start a new thread this weekend, and check out the Timeline link then - will be out for the day. At this point, just wondering, does the Mac OS create these docs, or where else could these timlines files be originating from? By the way, I don't use google docs, and don't use any Microsoft products, and I have not installed MS products on my computer (or at least that I know of).

I am getting these files on my late 2015 iMac, Retina 5K, 27".

Thanks for responding! Hope to continue this conversation.

Three or four things come to mind as things that need to be checked out that might help identify the culprit.

1. Since you are hearing the sent mail sound is anything in the Sent Mail or Drafts folder of your email app that seems relevant? If so the recipient's address might be a clue.

2. I know you don't have either of the apps mentioned that generate these files but do you have a similar app from some other third party? I ask because other software may use the same file formats.

What came up during that time were 3- .chrono-timeline documents and 1- /ABinfo.abcdi file. I could not open any of them of course, but that last file, I also could not copy. Any idea what these are?

Try dragging those files onto TextEdit, or opening the files from within the application or some other text editor and there should be some sort of text to give you some idea as to what the files are all about. Maybe. ;-)

Have read this thread with interest, and I have noticed on my Mac, on occasion, I will get a notification ping (maybe like a cash register), but checking the notification area and visibly open apps no sign of activity. I have have put it down to a "quirk" of the system, and a background activity, life is to short to worry (and spend time) on these things.

But if someone just happens to know the answer to the question could certainly put one's mind at ease and then one can get on with normal things.

I was amazed not that long ago when I was looking at my own computer for some of the basic common sounds that are supported by the System, WAV, AIFF, and MP3, and was astounded by the number and some of the locations of some of them, many of which I don't think I have ever heard.

Others I added on my own such as the old classic MS/Outlook?? "you got mail" which I added to my Mail System sounds when email is received. The customized George Carlin sound of "you got mail" that I also added became a little bit too gross and crass after a short while.

Ok, now you've started something. I have to hear that sound.

Years ago I had an Apple IIGS that I added a sound that played when I emptied the trash. Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street saying, "I Love It Because It's Trash". That worked well till one day I was deleting a ton of files one or two at a time. Imagine that sound playing 20 - 30 times in a small office that Mrs. Slydude shared. :D

My incoming mail sound was "Mail's In" from The Addams Family.

Ah yes, that takes me back quite a few years and I had several of the Grouches expressions among my System/application sound files.

I'm not sure if you wanted me to try sending you the sounds I use or not and I am not sure if they would be allowed to be attached to this posting method or not...
