• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I'm in the market for an external USB video camera for my Mac that will allow me to do some time lapse video. I'm looking more so for something of higher quality as apposed to cheap price. I don't want to use the built in camera on my mac as I cannot easily change the direction it is facing. The time lapse videos will be in excess of a 48 hour time span so I need to be sure it is stable. I know that the video camera just takes the pics and its the software that creates the time lapse video. Ideally it would be a camera where mac compatible time lapse software is included. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you are interested in quality why not invest in a DSLR (either Canon or Nikon). Canon includes software for remote shooting. For Nikon it is a separate purchase. For either you can use DSLR Remote Pro APP and use your iPhone or iPad if you have one to control and shoot.

Thank you MoTM for your tip. I actually have a Cannon T1i DSLR. I don't recall seeing any form of software with it but I will take another look. I'm just looking to create time lapse videos with my iMac. Is this something that you think I would be able to do with the T1i? I did some google searching and I did not come up with much luck. I do appreciate any tips/advice you have for me =).

This is what I was talking about. If you look at the screenshot of the iPad you will see Intervalometer (this is what you would use for Time Lapse photography).
