Sigh, why can't they offer the anti-glare option for the 15" as well, that's just ridiculous. I hate this marketing stuff. I don't want the clumsyness of a 17" laptop but I don't want a 15" mirror either.

This may be a stupid question but I would like to know this as well. I just got a Macbook and I'm really interested in the new iPhoto features and would like to know if I would have to pay the $80 to upgrade. I also just bought iWork '08 and I'm curious about that piece of software as well.

You will need to contact Apple and ask. Only they can give you the correct answer.

*edit*Just a thought, aren't Li-Po batteries the ones known to explode?*edit*

Yes, I have already had my battery replaced under Apple Care once. After about 8 months the life went down to a 40 minute charge, they deemed it defective and replaced it with no problem (kudos to Apple Care).according to iStat Pro my battery health is currently 80% with 171 cycles.

I know they mentioned this but didn't give any details. I half halfheartedly searched the site in an attempt to find details, but I am feeling a bit lazy, has anyone found the details of this yet?

Now I can only hope they bring this technology to the 15-inch, while 17-inch is really nice I currently prefer the 15 seeing as I am in college and have to carry it around with me everywhere, plus it fits on the desk much better.

Any battery can explode if charged incorrectly. I've been using Lipo batteries in my RC Heli's for over 4 years now, not with 1 single problem.

Oh yes, I know I am just saying Li-Po batteries in particular are known for exploding, they have had some media coverage, to a tech person we know this, to an average person it may scare them away.

From the Apple site:
The iLife Up-To-Date upgrade package is available to all customers who purchased a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after January 6, 2009 for a shipping and handling fee of $9.95 (US).

I was really hoping for a new cinema display, as I'm trying to get the old one cheap (I don't like the stupid shiny stuff anyhow (which also means I'm super happy about the 17" macbook pro's non-shiny screen, as -- though its unlikely that I'd ever get such an overly huge, and not realy very portable, notebook I think they'll probably put that option on macbooks soon)). I was also expecting a mac mini, but I don't really want them, although I would probably get my gramma one for her birthday if it came out (she got an old iMac, though).
I especially liked the software updates. The iWork system seemed like a nice "it just works" solution to the problem of sharing when doing a project and not in the same room as other group members. It looked like a good alternative to those sharing programs and browser based systems are nice, as they don't need a program. It would also help me with school, 'cause I hate my USB and my school doesn't support most mac formats so the reformatting is great. But, like usual it will be a super-expensive mac prodct that no one will adopt. I think, if they made that free, or like free for anyone who got some code with their copy of iWork :D (or some other such deal), apple would have way ore people switch to iWork. Unfortunately, I fear that this will be a not-very-adopted, yet really potentially nice service that no one will use for its price. :(
I am happy about the other updates. I don't use iPhoto much, but I can imagine showing off my albums with that Google map and clicking on pins. I think that feature alone would make most people I know convert to mac, if done nicely. Because of this, wil probably adopt iPhoto. Maybe I'll scan all my round world trip pictures. That would be so neat. And its integration with facebook, flickr and that camera or iPhone with GPS (which Apple has convinced me to buy for sure) is just beautiful. The faces feature is great too, but I am more impressed with the places.
The iWork updates are my personal favourites, though, as they seem very useful to me. I have already purchased a program to help with concentrating on writing that does the exact same thing, but the word processor, itself, has none of Page's great features. IO think full screen will come most in handy for me, when I'm writing (especially essays and such), but the Keynote/ iPhone/ iTouch integration is just neat. I have used the remote app before and I think getting up to make a presentation and pulling out my iPhone with that would just be so neat! :) I love how Apple makes they're products work so perfectly with each other!
In conclusion, I'd have to say my favourite things from the keynote are full screen pages view and guitarlessons. I've come across guitar lessons programs before (including a text based one I made when fiddling with sripts, where the strings are all dashes :D), but this one seems really nice.
Cant wait to get new iWork/ iLife. I think I'll buy that boxed set. It seems like a good deal.
The battery thing seems great but I don't think it really affects many people. I never see anyone using the 17" macbook pros so its too bad that didn'[t do the same updates to other macbooks, but ,in general, it was a good update! :)

Sorry if this is a stupid question (somewhat new), but is the MBP the only new "product" announced at the Macworld expo, or will there be more later in the week?

Well, in addition to iLife, iWork and all DRM-free downloads, yes those are the only Apple product announcements at Macworld.

Thanks for that. That sucks if you bought a Macbook yesterday. I don't know when mine was purchased because it was a gift but it wasn't anytime near then. O well thanks though.

If its true, I hope they announce it soon. I was waiting until after Macworld to make a decision, but I want a Macbook or a Mini. I'll probably get the Macbook if I don't hear anything.

ex-effing-zactly! I'm really hoping that they'llmake the battery/ anti-glare options for the Macbook/MBP 15" soon. The only reason I didn't originally like them (besides price) was the stupid glossy crap. I wanted a macbook air kind of bezel (but thinner). Also, I find that 17" notebooks are just too clumsy. I dislike it when notebooks just become sort-of-portable desktops. That's why I've always liked macbooks versus all those clunky 15" PC's (especially with PC makers who don't make good use of bezel). My 15" Powerbook has the same footprint as my mom's 13" acer. So acer wasted 2" on pointless bezel space, with ugly screws and an awful 0.3 meg webcam that takes up aton of space. Apple just cares about this stuff.

They kept mentioning the battry expectancy of 1,000 charges is an industry standard. Doesn't that just mean that pretty much every battery on the market is expected to last 1,000 cycles? I don't think it means 1,000 charges until the life starts to get shorter like someone people think. I think it'll start to get shorter like every other battery after 100 or so charges.

A cell phone is one thing, but I would be pretty ****** if I had to turn over my entire computer for at least a week when I finally need a new battery and pay extra just to get it. I think this whole irreplacable battery thing is a huge mark against Apple.

I've never really been disappointed by a Macworld, but I also am a bit disappointed there wasn't a Mini update. I'm sure they'll do an update sooner or later though. It's kinda sad to see an Apple product with so much potential just get ignored and left to whither away. I'm also kind of expected an expansion of the new display line. Maybe a smaller or larger version.

In my experience 300-400 full cycles is about average lifespan for a battery. I don't understand where the "1000 cycles" as an industry standard fits in. I've supported hundreds of laptops in my career and have never seen one with a usable battery after 400 cycles, period.

Agreed, except if it's absolutely the only way to make it fit. I know that Apple Stores can replace the MBA batteries on-site, same day if the part is in stock, however. That's not a real biggie for me. The only thing that concerns me is not having the ability to carry a spare.

As much as I hate how people always whine about being disappointed after an Apple product launch (nobody EVER gets everything they were hoping for, and of course, the rumor mills always get people worked up into expecting more), I will say that I'm disappointed that there wasn't so much as a word about Snow Leopard. It looked like it was tracking for a pretty early release. With them not saying anything about it, my guess is it's not tracking as early as originally anticipated.
