Someone has offered to buy my Mac OSX 10.5.1 disk from me.

The physical disk itself however is a little scratched. I mean, i have used disk before in that condition, and they have worked fine. Im just wondering if an OS disk is that bit more fragile or susceptible to scratches, pics up in a sec.

Cheers!

The discs are no more fragile than usual, however personally make a copy of the OS Leopard DL disk for day to day use. The problem will be after you sell it if the buyer's superdrive will read it and you will not know until they try it.

Theres the problem see. Im selling it through a classifeds website. The guy who is taking it has a good reputation, but it would be so easy for him to say it didnt work, and then for me to lose money on a good sale.

Is it possible for me to verify that its working on my macbook before i give it him.

Also, the 10.5 i am selling is a copy that i got when i had my old imac G5. Its a full retail copy. I also have the 10.5.6 that came with my macbook, when i got that. Would it be safe for me to just give him the install cd that came with my macbook?

I have since upgraded to snow leopard, and still have the disks for that. So if i needed to restore my OS i could just use the snow leopard disks, or is that bordering on the illegal?

Have to tell you I would not purchase a system install disc in that condition and it may not work in another computer. In so far as the MacBook install disc goes, he would need an identical model as they are extremely model specific.

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
It may pay in the future to take better care of your install discs.
I hope you treat your Mac better!
Also, you may need your install discs to repair permissions, repair disk, run hardware test or install from, so I would recommend against selling them.
