I am using footnotes in Pages. i would like to change to endnotes and be able to split the document, so on top i could scroll through top area to work on something and yet scroll independently through the bottom section of the document

This is from Apple's User guide, I don't know if it's any help for what you want:

"You can show two pages side by side as you work, which is particularly helpful if your document uses facing pages (with designated left and right pages).

  1. Go to the Pages app on your Mac.
  2. Open a document, click the Zoom pop-up menu in the toolbar, then choose Two Pages.
  3. Do any of the following to adjust the page view:

Fit the pages in the document window: Click the Zoom pop-up menu and choose Fit Spread.

Increase or decrease the size of the pages: Click the Zoom pop-up menu and choose a percentage, or choose Fit Page Width, which zooms one page to fill the document window horizontally.

Depending on the zoom percentage, you may have to scroll the document horizontally to see both pages.

To return to a one-page view, click the Zoom pop-up menu and choose One Page.

I haven't used that app before but I was looking at their site. It looks like that app has one or two features that might do what you want to do. If it doesn't at least there are some features that might be useful.

They have a free demo that might be worth the download. Apparently it reads several commonly used text formats so it should be possible to do a quick test without having to retype the entire document. Make a backup copy of your work, of course, in case something goes south.

Yes it does. I just opened my novel there, and in the View menu, then Layout >, it gives you the chance to Split horizontally (which you want?) or Split Vertically. I just tried to view two different chapters in Split view and I can.
