Static shock, from my experience tends to be bad to computers, thats why your supposed to ground yourself before touching any thing in the internals of a computer.

Try grounding yourself the next time you touch it, I have a previous model (the one that is 3 days out of date) Macbook pro and I have never been shocked.

I wonder if this is going on with any other newer macbook pros? possible recall issue?

I'm pretty sure that the motherboard and other vital components are thoroughly insulated from the aluminum shell.

I'd be sure to plug it into a grounded outlet and use the three-prong power cable whenever possible.

Can't recall the laws of physics. If you're carrying a charge (and in cold, dry climates, you often are) and you touch a metal object--a laptop, a toaster, or a kitchen sink--you'll discharge it.

As long as you don't shock one of the connectors IE USB, Firewire, DVI you should be ok . I have seen motherboards get fried in laptops when people shock the connectors by accident from static electricity. Was a big problem on IBM T4x laptops.
